Marlies advance into AHL Eastern Conference Final with sweep of Monsters

CLEVELAND — Mason Marchment and Trevor Moore had two goals apiece in the second period as the Toronto Marlies beat the Cleveland Monsters 6-2 on Tuesday to advance to the American Hockey League Eastern Conference final.

Toronto swept the best-of-seven series in four games and will face the winner of the conference semifinal between the Charlotte Checkers and Hershey Bears.

Michael Carcone also had back-to-back goals for the Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, coming in the third period.

Kasimir Kaskisuo made 32 saves for the win.

Trey Fix-Wolansky and Zac Dalpe gave Cleveland a 2-0 lead by the first intermission. Brad Thiessen stopped 21-of-26 shots in net for the Monsters.

Marchment scored at the 1:00 and 3:47 marks of the second, while Moore had goals at the 7:12 and 9:56 marks.

Toronto went 2 for 3 on the power play and Cleveland was 1 for 5 with the man advantage.
