The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenceman Erik Gustafsson to a one-year, $3-million contract.
Gustafsson had 29 points in 66 games with the Blackhawks and Flames in 2019-20, after being dealt to Calgary from Chicago ahead of the trade deadline for a third-round pick in the 2020 draft. He also had four points in 10 games during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Flames.
The 28-year-old led all Blackhawks defencemen in power-play ice-time and ranked third among D-men on the team in ice time overall (20:53).
Gustafsson was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, but the club did not retain his rights and he signed a two-year deal with the Blackhawks.
Gustafsson helps fill a spot on the Flyers’ blue line vacated by 13-year veteran Matt Niskanen who decided to retire ahead of free agency.
